Lectures MMP1

Week One: Module introduction including assesment criteria. Disscused pre-production elements within a documentary and what makes a documentary a documentary. Formed groups and disscussed potential ideas that would require further research.

Week Two: Disscused the different documenatry modes and how photo journalism developed into documentary, including the events that developed documentary as a genre. e.g the Vietnam war (My Lai Massacure) and D Day (Omaha Beach).

Decided that I liked the idea of doing observational photographs for my photo essay and therefore needed to do further research on Henri-Cartier-Bresson and Dorothea Lange.

Also had a group meeting in which roles were assigned and intial ideas were pitched.

Week Three: Workshop for the Cannon 450D cameras. Disscused all programmes as well as how to set the ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture, exposure levels, and focus points. Also disscused TTL (through the lense light metre), RAW +L setting, White Balance and flash.

Need to come up with potential ideas for a theme for my photo essay.

Have now attained the technical information needed to complete my photo essay by week 7.

Week Four: No offical lecture, but worked individually on our Yola site.

Week Five: Workshop on how to edit photos using RAW. This has now provided me with the nessesary skills needed to edit my pictures for the photo essay that I am producing.

From this workshop I have also gained an understanding of the settings used by the industry when working with RAW.

Week Six: Workshop in how to edit film and sound using Final Cut Pro. This has provided me with the skills that I need to edit our documentary to a professional standard. As well as this, from this lecture I have learnt that in order to edit to industry standard it takes a lot of time and patience.

Week Seven: Lecture on what needs to be included in our documentary pitches. Our group will begin to create our pitches, ensuring that we have covered evrything on the criteria, and have given reseaons for the actions and decisions we will take. I have also taken note on some of the documentarys thats were discussed and will now analise these in order to gain more indepth knowledge on different documentary modes.

Week Eight: Workshop using final cut pro, learning how to edit multimedia tracks and mix sound to edit film to an industy standard.

Week Nine: Lecture in which we looked at documenatry modes and techniques. We also looked at how other film makers broke ofcom rules and what this meant for there documenatriers. As well as this we also discussed interview techniques and how to reach the point that we want to get to.

Week Ten: Went through what information was required of us as a group to be put into our pitches for week 12. Therefore as a production team we now have the information and the understanding of what is required for our pitch and can now start to create our presentation.

Week Eleven: Had a group meeting with Karin to discuss our pitch and sort out what else we need to research in order to get the highest possible mark within the question and answer section of the presentation.

Set the task of researching into Racism within the UK against Pakistanis living in Britain.
