Initial Ideas

Idea 1: Living with special needs

There are thousands of families in the UK with children with servere learning difficulties. In this documenary our aim would be to understand exactly what it's like being a parent and a sibling, to a person with learning difficulties.

For this we would follow a two to three families finding out family life differs from those who do not have a child or sibling that has a servere learning difficulty.

Pros

Most documenateries that follow this subject only focus on one family, where as our documenary would focus on the differences between many families.

Cons

Sensitive subject; Families may not want to be filmed
Parents may not want their children to be filmed in fear of misrepresentation
May be difficult to interview those with a learning difficultly as they do not always see them selves as having a disability

Idea 2: Teen plastic surgery

With social expectations that women should be super skinny and men should be perfectly toned getting increasingly higher, this documentary would discover the extreams that some teens would go through to get the perfect model body thats seen in todays fashion magazines.

For this we would follow a male and a female teen through their process in getting there dream body and speaking to those that have already been through the surgery.

Pros

Expresses both opinions on the subject alowing the audience to decide for them selves what they feel to be done about the subject.

Cons

People may not want to be filmed
Many documentaries have done similar stories
No risk involved- could potebtially be boring

Idea 3: Fishermen

Unfortunatly we received a reply form Southampton docks stating that we would not be able to film our documentary there. However, after a gorup diccusion we then decided to look in to basing our documentary around the idea of 'A Day in the Life of a Fisherman'. Therefore we decided to follow up on this idea to see if ther would be any fisherman interested in helping to make this documentary.

Pros

Its a subject that many people are interested in.
Could discover interesting facts about the people in the industry or any controversy within the industry

Cons

In order to make it interesting it would be necessary to find a fisherman with an interesting or unusual technique.
May be hard to find a fisherman willing to participate.
health and safety could be an issue if we were to go out to see with a fisherman.
