The Busker and Me

The subject of the film would be of a certain old age busker who lives and busks in Winchester. It would be of a expository/partciaptory documentary. The 30 minutes film would take the audience through his day to day life and how he got in to his current state.

There was another variation of the idea where the documentary would take a poetic style and have juxtaposed images of the busker and that of a middle class family. Without 'the voice of god' where the pictures will speak louder than words. Making the audience make their own judgement and think what they want to feel when watching without someone telling them how to feel as this is what a narrator helps do.

However the downside to this idea is that it is slightly overdone. Especially in Unreported world where nearly every documentary has an issue of homelessness in it. Whether the subject be on 'Egypt's Rubbish People' or Thailand: Lessons in Terror. So in this respect it is quite unoriginal and the message to the audience might have already been desensitized because they have seen the same thing so often.

This is an example of a documentary about busking. It is of the participatory mode and uses a presenter and a narrator at the same to time to move along the narrative of the story in the documentary. It uses this technique similarly to Nick Broomfields documentaries in terms of how it cuts from interview to himself talking as the narrator to him in the actual documentary. Its not done as well because in my opinion it doesn't flow as much compared to Biggy and Tupac.

A Day In the Life of England

This would be a poetic documentary where it will focus on peoples lives. Around England. What happens to anyone or everyone. It will involve peoples different lives all at once to what they do in their day or a specific day they have they will record then send their footage to us.

This would have be so very time consuming to rifle through all the footage that would be sent to us. As well as this idea has been recently done by Kevin Mcdonald

However i think it would be worth it after editing it all for the end product would be amazing. It would also look quite experimental.

This idea I got inspireation from when I first watched Life in a Day when it first came out in the cinema. It was a very awe inspireing video that gave you an insight to what other cultures, other people, other than yourself do on a day to day basis. It has themes of nostalgia for all generations and the best thing about it is that anyone can watch it. Because has themes in it that can adhere to anyone. Nostalgia, personal experience and as such people personally identify with it. The documentary is poetic and has no narrator at all. All there is in the way of narration is the people who are part of the documentary in the videos, some say what they are doing. All of these attributes give the documentary a kind of dream like reality about it all.

Cab Driver

This film would be a Participatory  Expository documentary exploring how  a cab driver from Pakistan came from his homeland and ended up in England. We will look at his previous life back in Pakistan his home country and how he was a teacher. We already have a willing subject who wants to be in the documentary if we choose this route.

We will look at immigration and how he was forced to go to England with his family because of the lack of money this could be done further by asking why so many people come in to England and work. He expressed interest to go back home. The issue would be money to travel to Pakistan however if done correctly we would be able to create a documentary that would be able to play on people's emotions because it is a person's journey.

A cab driver documentary about cab drivers at the Olympic games and how they cope with the large of mount of shifts that they have to do because of the amount of tourists etc commuting to and from the games. It is an observational mode documentary. With no narrator and uses signifiers like the shots from inside the car. I found it hard to research documentaries purely about cab driver and the only ones I found was those that were foreign.
